"The Last" Change to the Dutch Oven Event

Cabelas has asked if we could change the date of the Geocaching / Dutch Oven event. They have a fishing derby on the previous date and would like to invite us to have our event on May 31. Cabelas is excited to sponsor the Idaho Geocachers event and has been very generous. My appologies for having to move the date for this event.
NEW DATE---MAY 31st---

If you would like to get together on April 26 as well, we could meet at say.....Celebration Park for a day of caching & cooking and fun. We most likely won't have additional people from the International Dutch Oven Society until the Cabelas event, but I know that we know how to have a good time :freak: or we can just wait. Please, let me know if you are interested in attending in April, and we will start to get it planned...If not, we'll definately see you in May.:high5: I will let you know by the middle of Feburary if we will be getting together in April.

Oh, Oh! GeoWoodstock is the weekend before...probably doesn't get over until Monday, May 26. Don't know about anybody else, but we will not be here (in Boise) on May 31. Dang! Don't know if any of the others are planning on returning home after the event in CA or are going to take in a few more excursions while in the area.

I think MaSpud is right...GW6 will have a big impact on that weekend...oh well...

Well, I hope you have a GREAT time in Sacramento. That sounds like an amazing event.

We will have to try again - at another time. We will go ahead with this one, and I am certainly willing to put together another one on a future date if there is an interest. I am fairly sure that we can get Cabela's or Sportsman's to help sponsor another event, and we can get the IDOS people to come and help out with a little bit of notice.

I am just sick about this. Pa and I were really looking forward to it. I know you have put a lot of effort into this and that dates are not always convenient for all. What will be, will be. You guys have a GREAT time at this one, too. Perhaps it will work out for those of us who are attending GW6 to come to another Dutch Oven Event in the future. :wall: Ya'll have fun.

Looks like I need to take some vacation time off to attend this one. I need some good Dutch Oven cooking tips.

Well........
Yes and No. I will be at Cabela's that weekend, but with some of the "restrictions" they have to give us, I think it would be best to reschedule the event to another date. Here is the problem that I am running into - I am booked until Sept after this May 31 date. Would everyone be good with Sept 13? I will get the place secured and do this without a sponsor. We don't need no stinkin' sponsor anyway! ;)

Cabela's would like to have several people from the caching community present that day to run a geocaching cache for kids. They are having 4H, Boys & Girls Club, Boy Scout, Girl Scout groups there that day. Chooch, JKgraziano headed this event up last year and I came and helped out. It was really fun. We set up a short caching coarse with temp caches for them to find, after a quick intro to caching class. Cabela's supplied several GPSr's to use. I am going to be doing Dutch Oven classes that day so I can not do the caching station this year. You all are welcome to sit in on the classes, and I would certainly provide lunch to anyone helping with the caching station. Please...if you would be willing to help, let me know so I can make Cabela's aware of our participation. They also had some gifts for helpers and gave us a vendor discount for the day of the event last year .

If there are no HUGE conflicts, I will work on getting the Sept 13 dated event posted next week after I return from the World Championship Dutch Oven Cookoff's (even those who don't win get to sample :tigger::tigger::tigger: )

Pat,

First of all, Congratulations on going to the cookoff's! Wow...impressive. Let us know how you did!

Pa and I are so glad to hear you are going to reschedule this...count us in for helping. We'll do what we can. However, I am not sure I can run a class on geocaching. I can help the kids find the caches, but I use an old Magellan (okay...I hear the hoots about it now...my ears are burning!). Maybe, just maybe by then I MAY have a Garmin Colorado. It depends...

Best of luck at the Cookoff!!!!:notworthy:

Ma, we have a Magellan too, so your not alone in the razzing department. :secret: Mr Sim has been looking pretty hard at the Colorado.

Its ironic how Magellan came up on this thread. You know that is what I use too.

Well....we made it home. We didn't have luck last in this one, but, I did get to help out other teams through out the week. It was amazing! Being our first trip to the World Championship Cook off was a learning experience. The caliber of people and food competing was amazing. We didn't place, but if you have to "loose" it couldn't have happened in a better forum. We learned a lot! Look at some of the "non winning" teams entries:

This was the desert entry from a team from Middleton, they also served a Cherry Ice cream with it made in the Dutch oven. MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm

Taste these and call anyone of them loosers. WOW! (And yes, they tasted at least as good as they looked!!!) If you want to see more pictures from the semi finals and finals go HERE

I guess that I had better get to work on qualifying again for next year. I am going to need the WHOLE YEAR to practice (and then some). I guess I shouldn't do :spam: again next year :freak: :freak: :freak:
The good news, at least I am very excited about it, is that the new World Champions are some good friends of mine and they are from Idaho!!! They live in Burley and are some fantastic people.

Holy smokes... if those are the "losers", I can't wait to see the winners! How many competitors were there?

About 100 people were involved in the cookoff. There were 15 teams (of two) that made the finals. There were 3 teams in the money at the end.

The COWWS will be presenting GeoWoodstock VIII on July 3rd, 2010 in Carnation, Washington at Remlinger Farms http://www.remlingerfarms.com. It’s a picturesque location with plenty of room for vendors and activities.
